Haven’t done a self promotion audio post in ages. So here one is. I’ll be re-working and recording some tracks over the next month so all thoughts and input is appreciated :)

Filmin’ in the Garden

mollycase:

Did some lovely filming in the garden today. Rob played two of his own songs and I played my very first original song and a cover, exciting! Hopefully will get it all up and edited soon. What a beautiful day…

The videos look wicked and I’m just touching up the sound now. I look forward to finishing our videos and sharing them to the world.

Sorry to post this again but this is the finished version of the video. On the previous video, image stabilisation completely cut off my head :(

Have a listen, let me know what you think and if you enjoy it spread it around.

19/05/11 - Green Man Pub

Little bit late I know, but I’ve been rather busy the past weekend with another gig and round Mol’s. I thought I’d do a little review of the gig and perhaps continue this for every gig I do.

I got the train to London with Mfon, an old friend (he’s 25 you know) and we caught up, talked life, music and travelling and it was just brilliant to see him and catch up. We went to Charing Cross to meet Mol, had a quick drink and then headed to Edgware Road, on the Bakerloo line. Once we got there I had a lovely surprise. Isaac, whom I went to uni with and co-founded Shining Stars Talent with arrived unannounced and entertained us with tales of his internship and just what he’s been doing since uni.

I was first on and was promised 20 minutes and the prospect of another 10 minutes later on if I delivered the goods. The crowd was a real mix of typical boozers, to students to travellers to business men. It was nice, bit of a rowdy front table. Once they found out I was from Stortford as was the extremely loud one, then I had it.

I was told to play a mix of covers and originals and this is what I did, alternating between them. I think my set went down pretty well, with some people requesting more originals after the first 20 minutes. The only problem I had was that my new pick-up was giving lots of feedback, meaning I had to quieten my guitar playing and reducing the amount of energy I could exhibit when playing.

After me were a Texas duo who played some sort of Americana, Country Blues. It was pretty cool but only because they were from Texas and he had the Texas drawl.

Another acoustic artists played name Lawrence Brays. He sounded a hell of a lot like Liam Gallagher and had the swagger too. He seems to be gigging a lot too and seemed like a nice guy.

The last person was an Australian harpist who sang as well and she was brilliant. She covered a range of songs and her harp just sounds magnificent.

I played again as did the Texas duo. It was a great night and a nice introduction to the London scene.

First Gig Back - Acoustic Club Open Mic Night

So after 7 months of being away and not really playing any guitar or doing any gigs tonight I decided to head on down to the Acoustic Club at my home town and do a 10 minute slot consisting of two songs. I organized the slot when Mol and I were in Goa knowing that I needed something to get me back in the swing of things and some motivation to get practising again.

I did two original songs one which I have played many times, ‘Heal The Heartache” and another song ‘Why Didn’t You Tell Me?’ which I debuted tonight. After playing through lots of my songs over the past few days I’ve tried to adapt them to suit my voice more and after recording me playing them initially I found that my voice was too overpowering for them to be commercial successful. Hopefully one I’ve had a look at them all they’ll be slightly softer and also display my voice in a better light. After listening to loads of music recently and while away I’m starting to notice that it’s about the tone and quality of your voice rather than the actual notes you can hit, it obviously helps that Mariah Carey has a gazillion octave range but she has pretty good tonal qualities too.

Anyway back to the gig, I think it went pretty well, “Heal The Heartache” sounded pretty good, I think, and I played it first as I knew it would a comfortable choice. Why Didn’t You Tell Me?’ went pretty well as well, I changed the chorus today and it suits the song much better as well as allowing me to get a better tonal quality out of my voice, I think it’s the way forward. I made a few slip-ups when heading to my falsetto region but overall I think it sounded okay at least.

Tomorrow I’ll edit the CD I got recorded and upload it so people can have a listen and let me know what you all think. Would be great to get some feedback regardless.

Anyway it was just great to get back to playing my guitar and gigging again. I’ve missed it lots and I aim to make the most current unemployment to get practising and finally giving my music career a decent shot.
